YPG’s Third Annual Town Hall: How to Navigate a Career Transition

Cincopa video hosting solution for your website. Another great product from Cincopa Send Files.

You finally got your foot in the door and landed that publishing gig. But what happens when you think you entered the wrong room? Maybe you dreamed of pitching author events, but can’t see beyond your submissions pile. Or you like adult trade, but still secretly long for the children’s book world. It can be difficult to navigate making jumps in the publishing industry, especially when you feel pigeonholed in a department, genre, or job that doesn’t feel right for you. If you have ever thought of taking the leap, join YPG in July for our third annual Town Hall where we’re talking transitions!Join us on Tuesday, July 19th from 6:30 PM – 7:30 PM in the Jefferson Market Library (425 Ave of the Americas, New York, NY 10011) to talk candidly with YPGers who have successfully made career swaps. After the panel, we’ll adjourn to The Four Faced Liar (165 W. 4th Street) for continued conversation and networking. Whether it’s small houses to big, publicity to editorial, or anything in between, YPG is ready to offer advice on how to make the move manageable.Participating YPG Planning Committee reps include:
  • Mabel Hsu, Editorial Assistant, HarperCollins (transitioned from academic to trade)
  • Amy Rosenbaum, Rights Manager, Nancy Yost Literary Agency (transitioned from a publishing house to a literary agency)
  • Elizabeth Lotto, Subsidiary Rights Associate, Simon and Schuster (transitioned from editorial to subsidiary rights)
  • Rachel Stark, Assistant Editor, Skyhorse Publishing (transitioned from marketing to editorial)
  • Josh Redlich, Associate Publicist, Random House Children’s Books (transitioned from small house to big house and adult to children’s)
