YPG Cares Volunteers Needed for Books Behind Bars

Books Through Bars (http://booksthroughbarsnyc.org/wp/) is an ongoing all-volunteer-run group that sends free, donated books to incarcerated people across the nation. They mail book packages to individuals rather than prison libraries and book collection is donated by members of the community.

Sign up for any Sunday or Monday shift (and bring a friend if you like!) Volunteers will help put together and pack books to be mailed. Packing takes place at Freebird Bookstore during the following times, opening letters, choosing books, and packing them:

* Sundays 2:00pm-5:00pm
* Mondays 7:30pm-9:30pm

No need to call ahead – just come by! You can stay for however long you like, whether it’s 20 minutes or 3 hours. It’s greatly appreciated when volunteers can bring heavier paper bags – these are great for packaging books. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have good bags for this purpose.
