New York Cares Day Fall 2015
YPG has been a supporter of New York Cares Day for five years now. This fantastic event brings together volunteers to help at school all across New York City. After last year’s successful visit to PS64Q, this past Saturday, volunteers from YPG went to PS 161 Ponce de Leon, where there were several projects, and our YPG volunteers were lucky enough to get involved in most of them! The primary project was painting murals around the school, and the YPG team was put in charge of the mural in the school’s auditorium. This mural depicts children playing instruments and encourages kids to be creative and to be themselves! Once the mural was complete, YPG volunteers were also able to help with sorting through the basement, which had suffered some water damage, and leveling books in the school’s teacher library for teachers and students to use in learning both English and Spanish. We finished off the day in helping clean up the various areas of the school. Congratulations to our volunteers on our fifth successful partnership with New York Cares Day, and especially those who participated in their second New York Cares Day in a row!
