YPG Bay Area Event: Academic & Educational Publishing Panel
When: Thursday, September 24th at 6:30pm
Where: Cengage Learning, 500 Terry A. Francois Boulevard, 2nd Fl, SF
It’s back-to-school season and if you’re a student, that can mean books, books and more books! The Bay Area is home to one of the most innovative academic presses in the country, and boasts branches of three of the world’s most prestigious educational publishers: Pearson Education, Cengage Learning and Wiley: Jossey-Bass.
That’s why we’re excited to announce our next panel discussion, featuring professionals from every corner of the academic and educational publishing industry, hosted by Cengage’s new San Francisco offices near AT&T Park.
Come learn about an area of publishing focused on inspiring, informing and influencing the world in a big way.
Meet the Panelists:
Serina Beauparlant – Editor-in-Chief, Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Pearson
Serina is currently Editor-in-Chief in Applied Sciences at Pearson Education where, in addition to managing, she signs and publishes books and digital learning products. Her previous experience includes publishing in the social sciences and health at Mayfield Publishing (McGraw Hill) and Wadsworth Publishing (Cengage).
Alison Knowles – Associate Editor, Wiley: Jossey-Bass
Alison started in publishing over eight years ago working in publicity on trade Religion and Spirituality titles and then quickly moved to an editorial role. Over five years ago she transitioned to working on Higher and Adult Education titles for Jossey-Bass, focusing on Online Teaching and Learning. Alison prefers books about dystopian futures; it helps her hone her apocalyptic survival strategy.
Brenda Ginty – Director, Higher Education Production, Cengage Learning
Brenda fell in love with books at an early age and decided a career in publishing was the best of both worlds: making great books and getting paid to read them. While completing her bachelor’s degree, she started her publishing career as the first intern at Prima Publishing. At Prima, she was part of the exciting transition from a small, independent publisher, to a multimillion-dollar publisher acquired by Random House. After working for Random House, she made the move from trade publishing to educational publishing when she joined Cengage Learning, one of the leading educational technology companies in the world.
Moderator: Greta Lindquist – Contracts Administrator, UC Press
Greta is the Contracts Administrator at the University of California Press, as part of the Rights Department. Previously, she was the Subsidiary Rights Assistant at UC Press, and an Editorial Assistant at Cengage Learning, on the Education Team.
