Story Love #18: Hot Dog with a Moustache
On Wednesday, September 2, 2015, a group of YPG Cares volunteer from AAP Member Houses, led by one intrepid Story Pirate, walked the plank at Midtown Manhattan’s Drama Book Shop. In the process, they read and give love to young buccaneers’ engaging tales, encouraging children’s literacy.
Over snacks and seltzer, the Story Lovers marveled at the sheer imagination kids demonstrated in their writing – and the accompanying drawings, of course. The volunteers served up positive reinforcement while reading about the likes of a bathtub named Soap, an ice cube that hailed from North Carolina, and a toothbrush named Flamingo who battled with a dirty rabbit named Paul.
And who could forget the adventures of a cheesecake who bargained with Ariana Grande for a cake pop in exchange for red lipstick? Unfortunately (spoiler alert), the cheesecake could only find pink lipstick, so Ariana gobbled down the cake pop herself.
During the evening, the Story Love team recorded the most amazing one-liners from these entertaining tales. At the night’s end, Story Pirate at the helm of the volunteer ship chose the funniest and gave the winning YPG volunteer who loved that story two tickets to a future Story Pirates show (or its adult-only After Dark equivalent).
Interested in getting involved with the Story Pirates? The next YPG Story Love event will take place on Wednesday, November 4, but keep an eye out from the poop deck for the monthly YPG newsletter for more details!
