Guest Speaker: Packback Books
The AAP’s Professional and Scholarly Publishing (PSP) Division’s Books Committee will be hearing from guest speaker, Mike Shannon, Co-founder, Packback, Inc. on Friday, July 18th
from 11:00am-12:00pm at the AAP New York office (71 Fifth Avenue, 2nd floor), and YPG members are invited to attend—in-person or via webinar—free of charge. Mike Shannon will be presenting about the current development and methodology behind Packback Books. Packback is a Chicago-based company focused on partnering with major publishers to combat the used book market through direct to student digital adoption. Packback provides a range of services to harness activity in the used book market, and utilizes a first of its kind “24-hour digital rental” to incentivize students onto digital format and away from the secondary market. Results of the model thus far have shown a 58% increase in publisher revenue and 10X increase in digital adoption. Packback is currently gearing up for a national launch this upcoming fall, with a major strength being a unique campus ambassador program. Mike and Packback have been featured in publications such as the Washington Post, Fast Company, as well as on ABC’s “Shark Tank” in one of the television show’s most highly viewed episodes which reached over 8 million viewers nationwide.
The guest speaker talks are free of charge but you will need to sign up as space is limited. If you or a colleague wishes to attend, either in person or via webinar, please contact Sara Pinto at spinto@publishers.org.
