YPG Takes a Stand for Literacy with LitWorld
523 million girls and women worldwide cannot read or write. On Friday, October 11, 2013, the annual UN sanctioned International Day of the Girl, YPG Cares volunteers will collaborate with LitWorld to stand up for girls and their right to go to school and to learn to read and write. LitWorld’s Stand Up for Girls campaign mobilizes people around the world to advocate for every girl’s right to tell her story and thereby create change. Below are four easy ways you can take action to support the Stand Up for Girls campaign:
1.) Take a picture: Print out the LitWorld sign (below) and write the name of a woman or girl whose story has inspired you on the sign. Take a photo of yourself holding the sign and post your picture on your social media sites and to the LitWorld Facebook page using the hashtag #standup4girls.
2.) Invite your friends: Invite your friends, family and followers to take a photo with their own sign.
3.) Stand up at noon your time on October 11, the International Day of the Girl. You’ll be standing up with thousands of others around the world.
4.) Spread the word about the urgent issue of girls’ education on Facebook and Twitter and your other social networking sites. Write a post telling the world who you stand up for—the women and girls who inspire your life every day—and include the tags #standup4girlsand #dayofthegirl.
