Mt. Sinai’s Reach Out and Read Program
YPG Cares is collaborating with Mt. Sinai Medical Center’s Reach Out and Read (ROR) Program for a third year, so if you have summer Fridays (either half-day or full day Friday options, which vary from house-to-house), please consider using one of them to read to sick children.
Reach Out and Read is an opportunity to provide low-income children with exposure to books and to make hospital waiting rooms a more literacy-rich experience. YPG Cares is organizing small groups (2-3 members allowed per trip) to come to the clinic to read to pediatric patients and their families on July 12th, July 26th, August 9th and August 23rd between the hours of 10 AM and 2 PM. You can commit to as little as one two-hour shift visit. Volunteer readers should be enthusiastic, energetic and flexible and have updated vaccinations for medical clearance. The program is located in the Annenberg Building, 1468 Madison Avenue (100th Street) on the 4th floor.
If you are interested in participating in this program, please email Emma Brockway at EBrockway@Scholastic.com with your preferred availabilities for the four dates and whether you would prefer a shift from 10-12 or 12-2. (Note: if you would like to participate but your schedule will not allow these times due to work schedule, please email Emma and she will put you in touch with the Mt. Sinai volunteer coordinator for possible Saturday hours.) Hope to see you there!
