Literary Magazine Seeks YPG Publicity Volunteers

Cincopa video hosting solution for your website. Another great product from Cincopa Send Files.

Slice Magazine is looking for YPG volunteers with publicity experience to help produce and send out press releases for its website, magazine, and events. The Slice team is also looking for volunteers to help run its upcoming writers’ conference. This dedicated group of bookworms will have a variety of tasks, including brainstorming panels and workshops, drafting and maintaining copy for the event on the Slice website, and inviting major publishing figures to participate.

Slice is looking for up to three volunteers to dedicate approximately 5 hours per week outside of typical work hours to helping promote events and assist in organizing the conference. Positions will run from April 1 to September 10. Interested candidates should have experience in book marketing or publicity and an interest in helping support independent, grassroots publishing. Please email a resume to editors@slicemagazine.org by March 31 with a note explaining your interest in working with us. While this is not a paid position, YPG volunteers will be able to attend the Slice Literary Writers’ Conference in September free of charge and will receive a complementary two-year subscription to the magazine. It is also a great opportunity to build and diversity one’s publishing experience.

About Slice:
Slice is a non-profit literary magazine dedicated to helping promising new writers have their voices heard. Book editors Maria Gagliano and Celia Johnson launched Slice in 2007 and the magazine has since garnered rave reviews from some of today’s leading authors, editors, and agents. Pulitzer prize-winning author Junot Diaz praises, “Beautiful, compelling, irresistible: Slice will knock you right out. In the best way possible.”

At the core, we aim to bridge the gap between emerging and established authors by offering a space where both are published side-by-side. In each issue, a specific cultural theme becomes the catalyst for articles and interviews from renowned writers and lesser known voices alike. We have published interviews with bestselling and prize-winning authors from Paul Auster, Jonathan Lethem, and Joshua Ferris, to Salman Rushdie, Ray Bradbury, Elizabeth Strout, and Kathryn Stockett. Between those pages are fiction, nonfiction, and poetry from writers destined to become tomorrow’s literary legends.

Slice has developed a devoted following of bookworms worldwide, from book publishing professionals to aspiring writers. Many of our first-time authors have connected with agents and then landed book deals as a result of being published in the magazine. The magazine has been praised by The New Yorker, TimeOut New York, Poets & Writers, and the Los Angeles Times, among other outlets. Slice is published twice each year, in the spring and fall. As Slice continues to thrive, we’ve taken its mission off the page with readings, literary parties, workshops, and as of 2011, an annual writers’ conference.
