For the past two years, YPG Cares has shown “Story Love” to the Story Pirates every few months throughout the school year by writing positive feedback on stories that kids in NYC have written. Selected stories are chosen and performed at the students’ schools and on October 16, 2012, from 6:30-8:30pm, the YPG members who showed story love were privy to a performance debut!

With one theatre major and about 16 YPG members, YPG Cares gathered around tables at the Drama Book Shop for our sixth Story Love event, enjoyed Halloween “booty” and beverages, and saw firsthand what joy the Story Pirates take to schools throughout the city. The stories that our members showed “love” to ranged from Chocolate Waffle bullies to thesaurus-friendly suspense. The Story Pirates not only performed their newest act but also a song generated from the stories and even freestyle raps with step-beats. Every volunteer was greeted personally by a Pirate and no volunteer left without laughter generated by a Pirate or a story they read.

This volunteer opportunity not only brings excitement to the participants but also highly impacts the students who receive positive feedback and are encouraged to keep writing. YPG is a constructive associate of the next generation of writers!
