Goddard Riverside is a signature charitable partner of the publishing industry and one of New York’s oldest and most respected settlement houses, annually serving 17,600 people. It is responsible for all street outreach to homeless individuals in Manhattan, is a major provider of home delivered meals to frail, elderly adults, and operates its renowned Options Center which helps young people to attend college, many the first in their family to do so. In all, its 27 programs change the lives of New Yorkers every day, from infants to senior citizens. This is definitely an organization to get behind. Not only are you helping the people of New York City, this is an excellent opportunity to network as many of the board members are major publishers or agents in the industry.

JOIN US TO SORT BOOKS

Give up a few hours on a Saturday to unpack, categorize, and repack books in preparation for the weekend-long Book Fair. Yes, it’s labor-intensive, but you get a preview of the sale, plus exercise and lunch. We especially welcome volunteers with knowledge of books in a particular genre or subject. We welcome a few heavy lifters, too. Please be prepared to stay for most, if not all, of the shift.

  • Saturday, September 15th — 10am – 3pm
  • Saturday, October 13th — 10am – 3pm
  • Saturday, November 10th — 10am – 3pm
  • JOIN US TO SET-UP & SELL BOOKS

    During the fair, you get to put the books into the hands of happy shoppers and raise money for a great cause. It’s frenetic and lots of fun. There’s an evening shift on Friday, plus morning and afternoon shifts on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Thursday, November 15 — 5pm – 10 pm (set-up)
  • Friday, November 16 — 11am – 4pm (set-up) & 5pm – 10pm (limited availability)
  • Saturday, November 17th — 9am – 2pm & 1:30pm – 6pm
  • Sunday, November 18th — 10am – 3pm, 2:30pm – 7pm, 5pm – 8pm (clean-up)
