YPG Learns How to Pitch! En Español
In YPG’s second show of support for Pitch!, several members of YPG from various houses joined Pitch! on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 9:30pm at The Lounge at Dixon Place (161 Chrystie St., NYC), for Pitch! En Español, a night of fun Spanish and bilingual book pitches in front of a live audience.
Pitch! hosts monthly guest editors and publishers who hear the ideas of well-known writers, comedians, and storytellers while the audience watches. The editor provides feedback and a “yes” or “no” on stage. Audience members are also encouraged to bring their own ideas to pitch. In October, Pitch! hosted Erik Riesenberg, director of the newly created Carlos Azula Press at Penguin Books (responsible for a large list of Spanish and bilingual titles on topics ranging from current events, astrology, self-help, and cooking to novels for both adults and young readers).
Presenters included actress and stand-up comedian Marga Gomez (Long Island Iced Latina, The Public Theatre, PS122) pitching a biography about her parents’ life in show business, stand-up comic and comedy producer Blanca Dominguez (White Blonde, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Stand Up NY) pitching a book of humorous short stories about her adventures as a single Latina in New York, renowned writer Karl Swinehart (Journal of Linguistic Anthropology and Language & Communication) with a multimedia presentation on a historical fiction novel, and an impromptu audience pitch about a new translation app for children on e-readers.
