YPG Cares Supports Read Across America Day

On Thursday, Feb 24th, 2011, several members of YPG Cares from various AAP member publishing houses showed their support for the National Education Association’s Read Across America Day by attending the unveiling of a 26-foot-tall “READ” installation on the steps of the New York Public Library’s Stephen A. Schwarzman Building. As the kick-off event to the NEA’s nation-wide reading event—which takes place every year on March 2nd (Dr. Seuss’s birthday)—this creative installation was composed entirely of Dr. Seuss books, 25,000 of which were then donated by AAP member Random House to New York City schools. Celebrity readers at the event included Common (who read Green Eggs and Ham), Uma Thurman (Oh! The Places You’ll Go!), Mark Ruffalo (The Lorax), Keri Russell, and others. Attendees could also get Seuss-themed face painting and eat snacks like green eggs and ham on biscuits while Seuss-themed mascots such as Thing 1/Thing 2 interacted with audience members.
