YPG Cares Volunteers Assist Center for Fiction
On Saturday, January 22nd, over twenty YPG Community Service members from a vast array of AAP member houses gathered at The Center for Fiction to assist with their Books for NYC Schools program. Some members boxed donated books based on reading level (from pre-K to high school), while others prepared mailings that will reach out directly to publishers for book donations. As YPG’s first community service event of 2011, it was exciting to have such an enthusiastic turnout.
“The Center for Fiction thanks the wonderful group of YPG volunteers,” says Development Director Esther McGowan. “We were so thrilled to have everyone here, and we are so grateful for your help with our Books for NYC Schools Program. We look forward to partnering with YPG on another event in the near future!”

The mission of The Center for Fiction is to encourage people to read and value fiction and to support and celebrate its creation and enjoyment. The Books for NYC Schools program works to address the great need for books in NYC public schools and enabling a new generation of students to find fiction they may not have otherwise. The Center hosts a number of author talks and events throughout the year and will be accepting books in lieu of cash admission for several events each season.
