Building on the success of the inaugural House Party: A Celebration of the National Book Awards, the Association of American Publishers hosted the second annual event on Wednesday, November 16. The celebration underscored the Young to Publishing Group’s commitment to literacy and philanthropy by bringing together young professionals to celebrate the nation’s preeminent literary prizes, while also shining a spotlight and raising funds for incredible New York City charities. In 2011, profits from ticket sales and an auction benefitted 826NYC.
Cofounded by Dave Eggers and Ninive Calegari, 826 is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. 826NYC provides drop-in tutoring, field trips, after-school workshops, in-schools tutoring, help for English language learners, and assistance with student publications.
