* Lit Crawl Brooklyn with PEN AmLit Crawl Brooklyn with PEN Am

Time: 6:00 PM

Lit Crawl Brooklyn with PEN America Traditionally, a good old-fashioned pub crawl involves bar-hopping with a group of friends, grabbing a pint, meeting a new friend, and moving on to the next bar (hopefully with said old and new friends). As bookish pub nerds, we can't turn down a good lit crawl, essentially bouncing from literary event to literary event, making new logophile friends, and waxing poetic about the new reading series we just discovered. Join your fellow YPGers for a meetup hosted by PEN America and Lit Crawl Brooklyn on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 6:00 – 9:00 pm, in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. The after-party will be from 9:00 – 11:00 pm, at Die Stammkneipe on Fulton Street. If you'll be participating in the Lit Crawl with us, we ask that you specify which phase(s) you will be participating in so that we have a chance to wait for each other and meet up before the next event begins. We'll proceed to each following location as a group thereafter. You can find more information about the Lit Crawl and descriptions of events at RSVP to join the YPG Lit Crew! Email Sharon Watson at with any questions or comments. ITINERARY 6-7 PM | PHASE ONE • Thrills, Kills, and Chills at Electric Lotus Tattoo • Workers of the Word at Greene Grape Annex 7-8 PM | PHASE TWO • Drag Queen Story Hour at Die Stammkneipe / Der Schwarze Koelner • Lyrics, Lit & Liquor at Black Forest Brooklyn 8-9 PM | PHASE THREE • MadLibs: Joyland’s Regional Edition at Habana Outpost • A Most Exquisite Corpse at Greene Grape Annex 9-11PM | AFTERPARTY Lit Crawl Brooklyn Afterparty at Die Stammkneipe / Der Schwarze Koelner

* YPG Cares: New York Cares Day YPG Cares: New York Cares Day

Time: 9:30 AM

Young to Publishing has participated in NYCares Day for Schools every fall for many years. This is a great opportunity to dip your toe in the wonderful world of volunteering here in New York City. NYCares Day will take place on Saturday, October 21. Our group has been paired with a school in need and will pull together throughout the day to complete a project. In years past, we have helped clear out storage areas, cleaned and organized school libraries, and painted beautiful murals. We usually start first thing in the morning with a lunch break from 12-1pm followed by another hour or two of volunteering, depending on the project. We also usually get a very cool free T-shirt with a fun NYCares Day design. In the meantime, please sign up with our group: YPG Cares. A donation of $10 is suggested, but not required. * YPG Cares: Career Workshop YPG Cares: Career Workshop

Time: 11:00 AM

When did you know that you wanted to find a job in publishing? How early on? Join YPG Cares and the Fresh Air Fund for a career workshop on Saturday, October 28, from 11 AM-12:30 PM. The Fresh Air Fund is an organization that provides year-round leadership and educational programs and workshops for New York City children from low-income communities. We need 5 volunteers to do a 5-10 minute presentation where they talk to a group of middle school students about what they do in publishing. Ideally it’d be great to have people that work in different departments (production, operations, marketing, etc.) so students can get a better sense of what the overall industry is like. The Fresh Air Fund suggested incorporating an activity along with the presentation. For example, if you work in publicity, you could tell the students a plot synopsis of a book from your company and have them write a pitch letter. It’s a great opportunity to foster creativity and inspiration among tomorrow’s writers and publishing professionals. Please contact Keilin Huang at if you’re interested in participating.
