With Pride Month right around the corner, join BIGNY for their May meeting focused on how the LGBTQ community are creating and contributing to the book publishing world. The panelists has a wide variety of experience including LGBTQ history, activism, religious conflict with LGBTQ lifestyles, coverage of notable hate crimes, conversion therapy, romance and entering the world of YA. This is sure to explore the many areas where LGBTQ authors are making their stories known today. Moderator: Cassandra Langer- Art Historian, Critic, and Author Speakers: Laurent Linn – Author of Draw the Line, Art Director at Simon & Schuster BFYR Perry Brass – Author, Playwright, Poet, Activist, and Publisher Donna Minkowitz – Author and Journalist The meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 15 at Random House (1745 Broadway, 2nd Floor) with beer, wine, and hors d’oeuvres at 5:15 pm and the program at 6:15 pm. The Bronx Book Festival, taking place on Saturday, May 19, aims to promote literacy and foster a love of reading among children, teens, and adults. The festival will cover a wide range of topics relevant to the Bronx community through panels, workshops, and more with award-winning and bestselling authors, illustrators, and creators. The festival will help build the reading culture in the Bronx and become the premier literary experience open to Bronx residents and the general public. Join YPG Writers for our signature write-in and flash workshop on May 10 and May 24. As always, we'll do a quick introduction, followed by an hour of writing and optional sharing, then we'll wrap up the meeting with a flash workshop. If interested in being critiqued, email YPGwriters@gmail.com with a 1,000- to 1,500-word submission that you'd like feedback on. We’ll email your piece to everyone who has RSVP’d, and will also provide printed copies at the meeting. If you prefer NOT to be critiqued, that is perfectly fine, too—we encourage you to come read, drink, and meet cool people!
