* Podcast-to-Book-to-FilmPodcast-to-Book-to-Film

Time: 6:30 PM

Still craving that Halloween spook? That 4:30 pm darkness got you feeling some type of way?? YPG is keeping the creep going with a look at the unique multimedia podcast-to-book-to-film experience that is Lore. Created by Aaron Mahnke, Lore originally launched as a podcast about true life scary stories. Now, the series has expanded into the worlds of television and literature, too. From an Executive Producer of The Walking Dead and an Executive Producer of The X-Files, the Amazon original series Lore is an exciting new anthology series that brings to life Aaron Mahnke's tales of the darker side of history, while The World of Lore: Monstrous Creatures is the first of several planned illustrated collections featuring favorite stories from the podcast and new tales to deepen the legends. Blending dramatic scenes, animation, archive, and narration, Lore reveals how many of our horror legends—vampires, werewolves and body snatchers—are rooted in truth. Join YPG for the first episode of the television series, a clip from the podcast, and a chat about the franchise on Tuesday, January 9 from 6:30 – 8:30 pm in Room 5172 at Penguin’s 375 Hudson St. offices.

* PANEL: A WORLD OF TRANSLATIONSPANEL: A WORLD OF TRANSLATIONS

Time: 6:30 PM

More books are translated from English each year than from any other language in the world. But far fewer books are translated into English, and translated literature in America is often treated as a niche market. Why is this, and how do authors and publishers of translated literature combat these assumptions and encourage more readers to sample the literature of the world? In this panel event, we’ll be discussing the challenges—and joys—of bringing voices from other cultures into the English-dominant book market. Where: HarperCollins, 195 Broadway, New York, NY 10007 When: Wednesday, January 31 from 6:30–7:30 pm
