YPG CARES: BOOK PACKING PARTY WITH BOOKS THROUGH BARS

Cincopa video hosting solution for your website. Another great product from Cincopa Send Files.

Books Through Bars is an all-volunteer-run collective that sends free books to incarcerated people across the country. Currently, they have a backlog of over 500+ letters from prisoners requesting books, so join YPG Cares and stop by for a packing party!

It’s a small space, so we need about 15 volunteers to read letters, find books, and package them.

If you’re able to, volunteers can bring paperback book donations, as well as stamps, brown paper grocery bags, and rolls of clear packing tape.

The most popular books requested are as follows:

  • African American history, especially 20th century
  • Native American history
  • Latin American history
  • How-to (drawing, origami, chess, knitting, sign language…)
  • Mayan and Aztec history
  • Memoirs and fiction by people of color
  • Mythology
  • Dictionaries, thesauruses, GED studies, atlases
  • Language studies
  • Sudoko/puzzles
  • Guides to starting a business
  • Comic books & graphic novels
  • Mass-market mysteries, thrillers, sci-fi

When: Saturday, April 28 from 12:00–2:00 pm

Where: Freebird Bookstore, 123 Columbia St. in Brooklyn
